JEWELS OF LIFE ESSENTIAL OILS

GREETINGS!

Have you prepared your home for the Fall Season?

Do you want to rid your home of chemicals?

Are you and your children ready for the Seasonal changes that cause respiratory issues?

I have recently started using Young Living’s Essential Oils and LOVE the fact that I am cleaning the atomosphere in my home!  No More Chemicals!!  It is mindblowing how many chemicals we expose ourselves to everyday.  We wash our face with chemicals, brush our teeth with chemicals, bathe with chemicals, slather on lotions filled with toxins, our deodorants have harmful metals and chemicals in them, we breathe in room fresheners filled with toxins, we clean our bathrooms with harmful chemicals, dust our furniture with more harmful products to our bodies.  Then we wash our clothes with all kinds of fragrances and chemicals and use super harmful dryer sheets.  On top of all that, we then burn candles or use plug-ins, releasing all kinds of harmful toxins into our homes.

No More!  Let me urge you to consider purchasing a Premium Essential Oils Starter Kit from Young Living ( http://yl.pe/8f9s – my site – J&J Marketplace).

Not only do you get 11 essential oils, but also a diffuser of your choice and samples of their laundry detergent and household cleaner, as well as NingXia Red energy drink  to try.  All of this retails for $360, but Young Living offers the Kit for $160 if you sign up for a membership.  That is an icredible savings and these oils go a long way!

Young Living is the company to trust.  Their Seed to Seal process puts the other oil companies to shame.  The FDA will allow companies to label their products 100% pure if only 5% is pure!!!!  Yep, you read that correctly.  Young Living is 100% pure for real!  They oversee and test the seeds that are planted,  the growing process, the harvesting process, and the distilling process. Nothing is sold that doesn’t pass their extensive testing.  They own their own farms and distilleries.  Don’t expect results from a $5 bottle from Walmart or Target.  Their oils do not even list the ingredients!  Hum!!

You are the gatekeeper of your home.

You can decided today to make healthy changes for your family.  Diffuse natural, healthy oils derived from plants and trees that God created.

Some of my favorites to diffuse  are:  Citrus Fresh,  Purification, Lavender, Valor, Raven,  Lemon and Orange.

You can create your own combinations according to the fragrance you like.
When I need help with respiratory wellness,
I add 1 drop of Thieves and 1 drop of Lemon Vitality to my water or hot tea.
lavender is a wonderful oil for making a Linen Spray to spritz your bed linens with, diffuse at night for restful sleep, or put a few drops on a wool dryer ball to replace harmful dryer sheets and fabric softeners.  I have also made my own hand soap using Castille Soap, water and 5 drops of lavender.
Peppermint vitality is agreat oil to help with digestive wellness.  When I was recovering from surgery and very nauseous, diffusing peppermint and applying lavender and Peppermint with a roller helped tremendously!
I even put 4 drops in a brownie mix for yummy peppermint brownies!
When tensions are high and the stress levels in my life are big, I roll  Stress Away on my wrists and temples.  Super helpful!
I made my own insect repellant using Eucalyptus, thieves, Peppermint, Lemon, and Spearmint.  I just mixed 5 drops of each in a glass spray bottle and filled the bottle with Witch Hazel.  I use it outdoors and I also spray it on my puppy, Bama.  No harmful chemicals and the mosquitos and fleas and ticks stay away!
Another oil I like to defuse is Purification.  It gives a clean, fresh smell and helps eliminate odors from cooking.
Thieves is the hands down best for wellness.  Sometimes I diffuse  it.  I also add a drop of thieves vitalty to my water, and mix thieves with cleaning solutions of water and baking soda,
There are endless possibilities.  The main point is, Get Started Today on making your home free from chemicals and toxinsTo review:

EASY PEASY CHALK PAINTING

BEFORE

AFTER

You  can do this!

Have you been wanting to chalk paint that
little table
or night stand and just didn't know if
you could do it?

Did you think it would be
too expensive?

I am here to tell you, chalk painting is EASY PEASY and not very expensive.
I procrastinated about chalk painting my bathroom cabinet for over a year.  Finally, I took the plunge, and it was super easy. I love the finished result and want to encourage you with my experience.

First, you need to gather your materials.

For my first project, I decided to use the Waverly brand of chalk paint. I chose the Crystal color for my base coat.
The top coat was Restore, by DecoArt.  Both can be purchased from Amazon below.  It is very inexpensive so it doesn't matter if you aren't thrilled.  Additionally, you really can't mess up with chalk painting.  I discovered that you just keep going over it until you get the look you want.
A chip brush is best for applying the chalk paint and a wax brush is used to apply the wax.

For this look, You will need:

    1. Waverly Chalk Paint in Crystal
    2. DecoArt Chalk Paint in Restore
    3. DecoArt Clear Wax
    4. A Chip Brush
    5. A Wax Brush
    6. Klean-Strip Deglosser
    7. A Rag
    8. Styrofoam Plate
    9. Paper Towels
    10. Crystal Door Knobs

The original color was a cream.

It desperately needed a pick-me-up and chalk painting was the easy peasy answer!

First, I removed the old door knobs and drawer pulls.
Next,I proceeded to use  a liquid sander-deglosser to remove grim, dirt, and the top finish on the wood.  This is a very easy process. Just apply to a rag and wipe everything down good.
There is no need to remove the old  door hinges.
You will just apply the chalk paint right
over them!  Easy Peasy!

For the first coat of paint,

I used the Waverly Crystal Chalk Paint.  It is a soft shade of grey-blue. I wanted that color to come through as a distressed look on the brown.

Next, I painted a coat of the DecoArt Restore color.

After a few hours of drying time, I lightly sanded the edges and areas that would naturally be distressed. I decided it needed a little more of the blue,so I used  a dry painting technique with the Crystal color.  Basically, I just put a little paint on a styrofoam plate, lightly dabbed my brush in it, and then wiped most of it off on a paper towel.
Then, I just lightly brushed the areas where I wanted more blue.  I loved the outcome!  It kind of looks like a white washed denim.

The next step is to apply a coat of clear wax.
Again, this is easy peasy.  The application is easy with a wax brush. Simply follow the directions on the can.

The finishing touch was to install my new crystal door knobs.

Easy Peasy transformation at a very small cost.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Until next time!

Blessings,

Julie

Greetings!

I hope all of you had a very Merry Christmas. Now is the time to make our plans for 2018. Have you begun to think about your goals for the year? Use this week to get them on paper; better yet, on your calendar. I decided to republish this post to get us all thinking about our goals for 2018. To help you get started, I am giving you a list of categories to consider:

SPIRITUAL GOALS: Bible Reading Plan, Prayer Notebook, Discipling someone God has put in your life, Building Relationships with Lost People…

PHYSICAL GOALS:  Eating Healthy (Find a good source for menus), Weight Loss (how much in Jan?), Exercise Program (gym membership, walking plan, etc)

SOCIAL GOALS:  Schedule Outings with Friends (Dinner, Lunch…), Plan a neighborhood get together (put it on the calendar)

HOBBY GOALS:  Schedule your crafts, projects, reading list, etc…. for each month

PERSONAL GROWTH GOALS:  Conferences, Online studies, Self-help books.  What would you like to learn about? Check into resources and schedule it.

You will have other categories to add to these. I encourage you to get started this week. Order your Daytimer from the pictures below.

Have fun and Happy New Year!!

Looking forward to 2018,

Julie

EACH DAY IS A PRECIOUS JEWEL!

Did you know that Scripture says our days are numbered?

Do we treasure each day as a precious jewel God has given us?

Psalm 139:b says, “And in Thy book they were all written,  The days that were ordained for me,  When as yet there was not of them.”

God has already planned the number of days that you will live.  I don’t know about you, but that motivates me to not waste my days!

Listen to what this verse says:

Psalm 90:12 says, “So teach us to number our days,  That we may present to Thee a heart of wisdom.”

It is our responsibility to take charge of our schedules; to number our days, and make sure we are not wasting precious time.

How does the Proverbs 31 woman accomplish so much?  I assure you it is not without a plan and schedule!

No, she didn’t have a Daytimer, but I believe she probably scratched out a schedule on something.  She looked for bargains, planned and bought food for her family’s meals, invested in real estate, helped those in need around her, made sure her family was clothed with the finest she could afford, bargained with the merchants, and more!

Let me introduce to you my number one tool for organizing my life:  a Daytimer.

I was challenged with the use of a notebook calendar years ago.  I love having everything I need concerning my family, schedule, upcoming events, prayer requests, addresses, appointments, etc, all in one notebook.  I take it with me when I go out-of-town.  Sometimes when I go to the doctor or some other appointment I carry my Daytimer so I can work on my calendar or some writing tasks.  If I receive a phone call that requires me to check my calendar, it is all in the Daytimer..

USING A DAYTIMER

I use the Daytimer accessories for business cards, a clear pouch for holding gym clips, stamps, and notes. I have labeled divider sections for Banking, Personal Goals, Piano Students, Journal, and more. At the end is an alphabetized Directory section for all of my addresses, phone numbers, emails, etc.

Yes, I do have an iPhone, but I really like having a hard copy of these things to sit down and look at all at once.

Now is a great time to get your Daytimer and accessories for 2018. Go ahead and get it all set up and familiarize yourself with using a calendar.  You may be able to buy a calendar for 2017 at a discounted price to finish out this year.  Regardless, get a calendar!  There are other brands, but I prefer Daytimer.  For me, a 2-page month overview is helpful for each month.  I can write in the big blocks appointments and major events.  Then, on each day, I can schedule my days hourly.  I prefer a 2-page spread for each day also.  You will discover what works best for you.

– DEFINE YOUR CATEGORIES

– PERSONALIZE WITH YOUR OWN SECTIONS

– ORDER NOW AND GET STARTED

Procrastination is our biggest enemy!  I encourage you to start today.  Even if you don’t have a calendar yet, make yourself a to-do list for each day.  I like to look at tomorrow’s schedule the night before.  That way, when I get up in the morning, I know what is on tap for the day.

Let me know if you have questions.  I would love to assist you anyway I can.

If you are interested in any of the products featured on this page, just click on the picture, and it will take you to the Amazon page for you to view.  Hope this is helpful for you!

You will be soooooo glad you did this!

Blessings!

BEAUTY FROM PAIN??

BEAUTY FROM PAIN?

We can learn some life lessons by observing the process of a pearl being made.  Did you know that the process begins with an irritant of some kind entering the oyster or mussel?  It can be a grain of sand, a piece of shell, or a parasite.  Regardless, the oyster or mussel produces a solution called nacre to protect itself from the irritation.  It coats the inside of the shell with this substance.  Over a period of years;  seven for a wild oyster, a pearl is formed!

Cultured pearls are formed in a shorter length of time; more like three years.  In this case, the farmer actually inserts an irritant into the oyster to begin the process.  In other words, the irritant is necessary to form the beautiful gem we call a pearl.

I was reading in the book of Exodus this morning about the children of Israel crossing the Red Sea.  Chapter fourteen tells us that before they actually went through this incredible experience, Moses told them, “Do not fear!  Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today,…  The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.”  (EX 14:13-14)

When Pharoah’s army, horses, and chariots, pursued them, God caused their chariots to swerve and brought confusion to the entire Egyptian army!  Remember what Moses told them in EX 14:14?  “The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.”

Ultimately, the Egyptian army was destroyed, and the Israelites walked safely through the Red Sea on dry ground to safety.

God allowed a huge “irritant” in the life of Israel.

They experienced oppression from Egypt for 400 years!  When God finally delivered the news that He was going to deliver them, it required faith and trust on their part.  The circumstances of leaving Egypt were not easy.  They were running for their lives from the most powerful ruler in the world at that time.  They were afraid!

God was using the irritant to produce a beautiful gem; solid faith and trust in the living God.

Years of walking with God had prepared Moses for this assignment.  His entire life had been supervised by a loving, sovereign God.  His mother entrusted his very life to Almighty God, who protected Moses life and caused Pharoah’s daughter to love him and desire to raise him in Pharoah’s household.  Even when Moses acted in disobedience to God and had to run for his life and hide in the wilderness for 40 years, God was molding and shaping him.  He used those 40 years of shepherding sheep to prepare Moses  for the ultimate calling on his life;  to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt and into the Promised Land.

Moses, the Israelites, and you and I, were and are pearls in the making!

Like the cultured pearls, where the farmer places an irritant within the oyster, God sometimes places difficulties in our life.  His design is to create a beautiful, precious pearl;  a precious gem that can only be formed from years of grace being produced to cover that irritant.  Other times, we make bad choices and bring on the irritant ourselves.  Somehow, the Creator, the Master Designer is using all of that to produce a pearl of grace in our lives.

Nothing is wasted in the life of a follower of Jesus Christ.

Doesn’t that give you great comfort to know that God is overseeing every aspect of our lives?  That includes our mistakes, our bad choices, our disappointments, our trials.

So, dear friend, God will use everything for good in the life of His child.  (Romans 8:28)  Some irritants are lovingly placed in our lives by Him, because He wants to produce a pearl in us for His glory.  Other times, we allow that irritant to get into our lives.  Even then, the God of the universe uses it to produce a pearl of grace in our lives.  We can entrust our very lives to Him.

When circumstances overwhelm us, and the “IRRITANT” is too great, God fights for us while we are silent.  (Exodus 14:14)

I love that verse!!  I don’t have to fight through the storms of life in my own strength!  In fact, while I keep silent, God does the fighting!  When I can’t fight, He fights for me.  When I don’t know what to pray, He prays for me.  (Romans 8:26)

To all my sweet sisters in Christ, I am forever indebted to you for your lives that you have shared with me.  Grace to each of you!  Together, we are God’s pearls!

“Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.  Amen.”  Ephesians 3:20-21

Blessings!

AMAZING BIBLE VERSES TO CALM YOUR FEARS AND ANXIETIES

“…MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD…”

Scripture tells us in 1 Peter 1:6-7, “In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary you have been distressed by various trials, that the proof of your faith being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ…”

Did you get that?  Our faith and the proof of our faith is MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD!  Gold is refined and purified by fire.   God uses trials and storms of life to purify us.   As a result of these trials and storms, our faith becomes MORE precious than gold.  This is not just an empty faith.   It is a faith in the living God, through the person of Jesus Christ.

There are so many wonderful Bible verses that gives us comfort and strength.  God alone is our refuge in times of trouble.

I hope you will draw strength, as I have, from these beautiful Bible verses describing God’s love, His strength, and His peace.

” …A FAITHFUL CREATOR…”

“Therefore, let those also who suffer according to the will of God

entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.”

1 Peter 4:19

“DO NOT FEAR…”

Isaiah 41:10 tells us,

“Do not fear, for I am with you;  Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,

Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

“…I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN…”

“I have set the LORD always before me;  because He is at my right hand I will not be shaken.”  Psalm 17:8

‘”..A STRONG TOWER…”

“…MY COVENANT OF PEACE WILL NOT BE SHAKEN…”

“For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you,

And My covenant of peace will not be shaken,” says the LORD who has compassion on you.  Isaiah 54:10

“…THE LORD HIMSELF…”

“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way.  The Lord be with you all.”    2 Thessalonians 3:16

I can’t think of a better verse to end with.  The Lord Jesus, Himself gives us peace.  He doesn’t send it by another person.  He doesn’t just flood us with an abstract emotion.  Peace is not a package we open up .  Jesus is the LORD of peace!  He is the very essence of peace.  He Himself gives us peace.  He comes down from Heaven and fills us with Himself.

Exodus 3: 7b-8 tells us, “…for I am aware of their sufferings,  So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians…”

I love that imagery!  God told Moses, concerning the Israelites who were in bondage to Egypt, that He was aware of their sufferings.  Not only was He aware, He was “COMING DOWN” to deliver them.

Dear friends, our God sees our every trial.  He Himself COMES DOWN to care for us, to walk us through our trials, to give us courage and strength, to give us HIMSELF.

Until next time…    may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way.

Blessings,
Julie

PEACE IN THE STORMS OF LIFE

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you.

There are times in life, that God calls us to go through a

storm.  What do we do?

-Fall apart?

-Let fear overtake us?

-Get angry at God?

-Question God’s love?

For the child of God, these responses may be temporary, but God will bring us to a point of trust and peace.

Ephesians 2:14 says, “For He Himself is our peace…”  Isn’t that a beautiful thought?  Having Jesus, means having peace.

Instead of seeking an abstract thing called “peace,” we should seek Jesus.  When we have Him, we have His peace.

In John 14:27, Jesus speaks of His peace that He gives to His children.

The Getty’s sing a beautiful song that gives us the perfect perspective.

Jesus Draw Me Ever Nearer

Jesus draw me ever nearer as I labor through the storm.

You have called me to this passage, and I’ll follow, though I’m worn.

May this journey bring a blessing.  May I rise on wings of faith;

And at the end of my heart’s testing, with Your likeness let me wake.

Jesus guide me through the tempest;  keep my spirit staid and sure.

When the midnight meets the morning, let me love You even more.

Let the treasures of the trial form within me as I go –

And at the end of this long passage, let me leave them at Your throne.”

Over the next few months, we will continue to look at this subject of drawing closer to Jesus during the trials of life.

I hope you will share your thoughts with everyone.  Many of you have been through storms and are now on the other side.

Share with us the faithfulness of God to you!

5 Priorities for De-Stressing Your Life

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you,

Like a diamond, there are many facets to our lives.

“Your Dictionary” defines a diamond as having four equal sides with small angles on the top and bottom and wider angles on the sides.  In just the right  light, a multitude of colors are reflected in this precious jewel.

Our lives are much like a diamond.  We have many facets to each day.  There are so many angles to cover as women – wives, mothers, homemakers, employers, employees, taxi drivers, counselors, cooks, personal shoppers.  We must prioritize these facets of life and make sure the MOST important things are accomplished.

There is a book entitled, The Tyranny of the Urgent, by,  Charles E. Hummel, that speaks of how easy it is for us to place the seemingly urgent things of life above the most important things.  Recognizing this tendency will enable us to sometimes say, “No” to the things that suffocate our schedules.

Click on the image if you don’t have this little book.  It is worth the read!

Are you running in circles?   Grabbing fast-food for supper because you haven’t gotten to the grocery store?

Behind on the laundry?  Didn’t get around to cleaning the house – what is that??  Panicking already about the Holidays?

We have all been there!  I find myself in the rat-race trap occasionally, but there are 5 things that make a BIG difference in my life.  When I follow them, a more peaceful, stress-free life results.  Perhaps we could commit to follow these steps starting now.  Let’s see if the Holidays are more relaxing this year.  In fact, LIFE will be more relaxing!

With that said, let’s take a look!

PRIORITY #1:

Time Alone With God

This must be priority Number One!!  Whatever you do, guard your time with the Lord each day.  Would you leave your house without brushing your teeth?  What about without your coffee?  There are so many things that we do every morning.  Many of them are not vital to our lives, but we wouldn’t think of leaving them off.  However, when it comes to time alone with God, sometimes that is relegated to an optional activity.  I submit to you that we need to guard this over everything else!

Here are some hypothetical conversations you may need to have with yourself.  “No, I can’t put that load of laundry on until I spend some time with the Lord. ” “No, I can check those emails and Facebook later.  First, I need to spend time with the Lord. ” “No, I can’t sleep until _________.  I need to get up 30 minutes earlier to make sure I have my time with the Lord.”  “No, I am not going to look through that magazine first. It will have to wait until after my Quiet Time.”

There are so many distractions for us.  Nothing is more important or pressing than our time with God – FIRST!  I am not suggesting we get legalistic with it.  Instead, I am suggesting we treasure this time above all else.

For ideas on what to read, please see my post entitled, “Scripture- More Precious Than Silver.”

PRIORITY #2:

Plan, Plan, Plan

All of our best intentions don’t really matter, unless we do them.

  • Plan the menus for the week –

This will take you 15 – 30 minutes.  Let me give you a suggestion.   Look into “Hello Fresh”!  I highly recommend them. The meals are delicious. They do the planning for you, shop for the fresh food, and then mail it to you on ice!   The simple to follow recipes  are included. In less than 30 minutes, you have a delicious homemade meal on the table for your family.  I have used them for months and truly recommend them.    Use this code to get a discount on your first order. https://www.hellofresh.com/?c=2RNS84

  • Use a Daytimer to plan your day.

Prioritize each task.  Make sure you do the most important tasks each day.  Remember, your time alone with God is Number 1!  Put it on your schedule.  Make a list of everything you want to accomplish for the day.  Next, number them in order of priority.  Write in all appointments, meetings, lunch engagements, etc.  Whatever goes undone can be moved to the next day.  For more help, see my post, “Top Tool for Getting Organized in 2018,”  https://jewelsoflife.org/top-tool-for-getting-organized-now-for-2018/

  • Schedule when you will put on a load of laundry each day.

Fold the laundry as you take it out of the dryer – 10 minutes.  Don’t throw it on the counter or in a basket to fold later.  It will never happen!  Go ahead and take that basket of folded clothes to the room it belongs in and put it away.   I know!  This is the hardest part.  I am not always successful here either, but it is sooooo much better when I take the extra 10 minutes and put the clothes away!

I love, Flylady.  If you haven’t visited her site before, by all means do it today.  She has wonderful tips on scheduling your             housecleaning chores.  I have been using her routines for several years. Her routines teach you to wipe up the bathrooms each day, do a load of laundry a day, keep your kitchen sink clutter free, and divide your house into zones to clean.  Her systematic approach helps keep your house tidy by doing little things each day.  I encourage you to visit her site and start her routines!

  • Plan for the Holidays Now.

  • Label a section in your planner – “Holidays”.  Check with family members on sizes and record them in your planner.  Jot down ideas  of gifts and pick them up as you see them on sale.
  • Think about menus for the Holidays early.  Shop for ingredients early and have them in the cupboard when you begin your baking.
  • Flylady, suggests having all the gifts wrapped and under the tree by December 1.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be finished by then and just focus on the coming of Christ and enjoying the season?

PRIORITY #3:

Declutter Something Everyday

Make a plan to tackle the clutter.  Flylady suggests spending 15 minutes at a time.  Do this once or twice a day.  Throw out most of it.  Give some away or take it to the thrift store.  Getting rid of the excess stuff, means there is less to clean and store.  Go ahead and bless someone else with your excess.  I am not really into yard sales, but some of you are.  Plan the big day, and make a little extra money with the stuff cluttering up your home.

PRIORITY #4:

Prioritize Your Commitments

This goes hand in hand with your calendar.  We have established that our relationship and time with the Lord are the first priority in our lives.  Therefore, that relationship comes first.  Time with God is a priority.  Schedule your Bible reading and quiet time with Him for the first part of your day.

If you are married, your husband and family are next.  Does your husband need you to run an errand for him?  Would he like to come home to a home cooked meal?  Does he enjoy a clean house over a disaster of a house?  Plan to meet his needs the best you can.  We all have crazy days occasionally and sometimes, we can’t get it all done.  Sometimes, we just need to order a pizza.  I do too!  But as a general rule, make your calling as a help mate a priority.  As mothers, our children are the jewels in our lives and God has chosen us to pour our lives into theirs.  Cherish the years you have them at home to nurture, to teach the ways of the Lord. to love and shape their lives.  Don’t clutter up your schedule so much that there is no time for family.

I believe as Christians, that the church is next.  For now, let’s just say that God has gifted each of us to serve the body of Christ.  Find your place of service among the believers in your local church.   We are all in different stages of life and therefore our time and commitment vary.  You determine what you can do now; in your current stage of life.  By all means, get involved.  God has called all of us to make disciples, to love each other, and to build each other up, for His Glory.

PRIORITY #5:

Work Your Plan

Obviously, the only way to reap results from a well scheduled life is to work the plan!  Stick with your calendar.  Stay with those priorities you set.  Before you know it, these things will become second nature to you.  You will find yourself following the routines you have established automatically.

Yes, there will be days when you have “Divine Overrides” to your schedule!  Doctor’s visits, babysitting grandchildren, company, appointments, meetings, etc.   We all have things happen each day that we didn’t plan for.  Don’t let it throw you.  Just reschedule your priorities.  Shift things around a little in your week.  Maybe EVERYTHING you planned will not happen, but you will be surprised at what all you WILL accomplish.

Use these priorities and shine like the beautiful diamond pictured at the top of the page.  You can do it!

Until next time!

Blessings,

You will be soooooo glad you did this!

5 Steps to Create Your Special Oasis to Read and Study

This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a purchase using this link.

Do you have a special place for reading God’s Word, for planning your day, for reading your favorite book or magazine?

Psalm 84:1 says, “How lovely are Thy dwelling places, O Lord of hosts!

With just a little creativity, you can create a lovely, inviting space to meet with God and plan your day!
Do you have a bookshelf you can devote to your books, notebooks, library books, magazines? Check out these options from Amazon, or get out some spray paint and refurbish something you already have. Make it colorful, classy, inviting. You may have something around the house already that you can just move to your “spot”.
If you are in the market for something new, here are 3 choices for you:

Click on the picture and it will take you to the Amazon site.

Now, gather some special items to make it a little oasis for yourself. Surround yourself with beautiful things that help you focus on God’s glory.

I sit by a bay window overlooking my backyard. In front of the window are some beautiful plants. Fresh flowers from my yard sometimes decorate my table, along with a beautiful card holder with the words to a hymn. Right beside me is my bookcase which holds my Bible, commentaries, study Bible, current books I am reading, notebooks my calendar, pens, highlighters; everything I need to sit sand study, or just be with the Lord.

You will find that having a special place set aside for your study will cause you to want to go there. It will be your place to talk with the Lord, to journal your thoughts, to pray, and to listen. Here are links to some study helps:
Click on the picture to go to the Amazon site.

So we have the “place”, we have a “bookcase” for all of our study needs, we have a “study Bible”, we have a “notebook” along with “pens and highlighters”. Now decorate a little with flowers, pictures, pillows, etc. Something to add a touch of beauty.
Click on the picture to see and purchase on Amazon.

I would love to hear about your special study place! Send pictures to encourage others with their decorating.
I would love for you to sign up with your email address, so I can let you know when new posts are out and also update you on “freebies” I am offering.
If you sing up today with your email, I will send you this “freebie”. It is a prettier version of, Five Questions to Ask When you Study a Passage of Scripture.

FIVE QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN STUDYING A PASSAGE OF SCRIPTURE:

1-What do I learn about God from this passage?

2-Is there a warning for me about something; a sin for me to avoid?

3-Is there a promise for me to claim and trust God with?

4-Is there a truth about myself in this passage?

5-Are there specific things I can praise God about in this passage?

So make it your goal to establish your special “spot” for study this week!

-Decide on the place
-Add a bookcase for your books
-Gather your study materials: Bible, notebook, commentaries, pens, highlighters, etc.
-Add a special pillow, throw, or picture
-Pick some fresh flowers and display them on your desk, by your chair, or on your table

Don’t forget to sign up with your email, so I can send you a pretty copy of, “Five Questions to Ask When Studying a Passage of Scripture,”. You can make as many copies as you would like. Use a three-hole punch and put several in your notebook.

Last, but not least, share your pictures with us!
Until next time……

The Jewel of Discipleship

“Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 (NASB)

Even though iron is not what we think of as a jewel, it is a metal that was used for jewelry in ancient times.  During the time of Moses and the conquest of Canaan, iron was a rare metal and used mainly for jewelry such as  bracelets and rings.

The presence of iron in the Promised Land was a symbol of the richness of the land.  Because it was a harder metal than copper or bronze, it had to be extremely hot to work with it.  It was pounded out with an iron hammer and then sharpened with an iron file.  Later it became the metal of choice for tools and weapons.

The imagery of iron sharpening iron in this Proverb is worth our consideration as we think about the “jewel” of Discipleship.

How Does Discipleship Work?

The Proverb mentioned above speaks of one believer sharpening another believer.  In the New Testament this is the picture of discipleship.  One believer sharpens another believer by involving themselves in their lives;  sharing with them the lessons they have learned in the Christian walk.

As I reflect on God’s hand in my life, I marvel at how He used others in my life to disciple me.  Sunday school teachers, GA leaders and Youth ministers tied into my life as a child and teenager.  They taught me the Bible, encouraged me to memorize scripture, and exposed me to mature Christians whom I could look up to and follow their examples.  What a treasure that my parents saw to it that I was involved in church!

As a college student, God brought mature believers into my life to disciple me in studying Scripture.  I was encouraged to memorize scripture in a systematic way.  Then as a young wife and mother, precious friends entered my life and taught me so much through their walks with the Lord.  I was exposed to many wonderful authors. I consider many of those authors as my mentors.  Even though I never met them personally, they shaped my walk as a Christian.

At a significant point in my life, I realized that God had used all of these people to disciple me.  He  brought special people into my life at just the right time.  They lived their lives next to mine, shared books with me, and taught me the Word of God.  They modeled before me how to walk with the Lord.  I will forever cherish my dear friends, Amy, Leslie, Paul, and John (later became my husband) and the impact they had and continue to have on my life.
